Living Independent
from Tobacco (LIFT)

The Living Independent from Tobacco (LIFT) project shares the belief of the California Tobacco Prevention Program and many others working in tobacco education throughout the State: All individuals have the right to be protected from the dangers of secondhand smoke (SHS) where they live, work, and play.
LIFT Goals
LIFT will work in several diverse,
low-income, and rural communities of northern California on 2 important areas to address SHS policy:
1
By partnering with diverse organizations representing or serving the rural populations of Modoc and/or Trinity Counties to work on and contribute to LIFT's tobacco prevention policy campaign.
2
Smokefree multi-unit housing (MUH) and mobile home park complexes.
To accomplish this, the project's two objectives are policy/system change related strategic information and education campaigns aimed to activate community engagement while addressing health disparities in a manner that is both culturally competent, equitable, and in partnership with Modoc and Trinity County Local Lead Agencies (LLAs).
LIFT will use the following strategies to achieve these goals:
-
Conducting educational outreach and policy building infrastructure,
-
Collaborating with funded agencies throughout California,
-
Building relationships with key stakeholders,
-
Developing region and population-specific educational materials, using local and culturally relevant media and newsletters to inform the public of project activities and increase local support,
-
Using strategic planning sessions with target groups and local tobacco control advocates, and providing technical assistance to assist with the creation and implementation of smokefree policies.
